Social Media, a sociological perspective

Today as I write this blog about social media it is obvious that I'm exemplifying one of its main purpose and that is - to communicate and reach out with you dear readers across space and time. So here I am, putting on some rapid fire thoughts on the matter.

If I were to compare myself into a sociologist then that would be George Herbert Mead. He has many great ideas, profound insights in his mind yet he's having a hard time putting them on a documented manuscript. And I'm not saying that I possessed an astute mind with the likes of his' - what I mean is that am likely comparable to him on the latter. As far as I'm gratefully concern, writing is not really my cup of tea but as I embrace and being empowered by my discipline there's this splurging-urging need to hone the skill so without further a do, let's start traveling line by line with my 'objectivity-is-a-must' expository.

SOCIAL MEDIA ERA, yes we are absolutely living in it.  Love it or hate it, there's one undeniable fact about this digitally-driven modern structure, the whole mankind keeps talking about it. Social media by far - as of this very moment, is the most innovative instrumental apparatus created to serve human intertwining nature. Citizens of the internet more popularly known as the netizens, are gradually utilizing the social media in the most possible way and in just a little span of time, a snap of a finger perhaps I shall say, everybody shall have to live with it (or they shall have a hard time without it meddling their lives.) For most people, social media is already incorporated with food, shelter and clothing as basic societal needs. The world is now living wherein this entity goes along with the systematic flow of human life, becoming a part of  man's perfunctory.

Having the internet as basic human right, everybody can access the social media easily, without restrictions and with no stipulated boundaries. By being able to visit/look on one's own social media profile (e.g. his/her thoughts, anecdotes, pictures, videos - his/her whereabouts and etc.), an individual consequently immerse and integrate him/herself through a process called sociological imagination. In layman's term, it's a process wherein an individual shifts from one perspective to another, being able to put his/her own foot on other individual's shoes.

This spontaneously growing and continuously-emerging social structure plays a significant and crucial role today. It makes the world more engaged and more interactive; it proliferates global socialization: people expanding their connections through social media hence their platform to the bigger world.  Moreover, it significantly helps getting in touch with love ones, acquaintances and significant others across diversity and distance; making business transactions, deals, and so on and so forth, you name it. Given its phenomenal arrival, its functions are clearly and well-defined manifestly speaking; however, latency is yet to be identified or if already identified, still not clear to me as a social analyst (a long-term comprehensive study shall be conducted).

Indeed, Social media is one major macroscopic trend in global development that continuously paves the way to a more participative and fast-paced interactive process of human relations which had absolutely changed and touched each life. It redefines the patterns of social interactions to a whole new level. Behold! Its power to connect each and one of us is more than just laudable. It's overwhelming.
